Heidi Klum was conceived in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, on June 1, 1973. Erna Klum, Heidi's mom was a professional hairdresser. Gunther Klim his father was head of the cosmetics business. Her father had previously been a production manager for the perfume firm 4711. Her birthplace Bergisch Gladbach, a small city of about 100,000 inhabitants just six miles away from Cologne was where she grew up. Former model of German descent has become a TV host and producer fashion designer businesswoman as well as an actress. She is based in southern California as well as Germany. Klum was up against 25,000 contestants from Germany and Europe before being selected as one of three semifinalists. Klum was awarded a top $300,000 model prize in the month of April, 1992.
